Are there times when I should follow up with my primary care provider after visiting an urgent care?
If a patient presents to the urgent care and has a condition that is treated there, generally speaking, it is a good idea to follow up with the primary care physician. It is not always necessary for them to follow up immediately, but if they were seen for something, especially if it is something that requires some ongoing treatment, such as their blood pressure was elevated, they certainly should follow up with their primary care physician.
Most times, after you have visited an urgent care for treatment, it’s a good idea to follow up with your primary care doctor, Premier Physician Network (PPN) physicians say.
During your visit, the health care provider at an urgent care will tell you whether you need to follow up as soon as possible or make an appointment sometime in the future.
Also, sometimes an urgent care visit for one concern – a cut on your hand, for example – could find an unrelated issue, such as high blood pressure. In this case, you would want to follow up with your primary care provider not only to make sure your hand is healing well, but also for ongoing treatment for your blood pressure.
