What are common infertility treatments?

A number of treatment options are available to both women and men, according to the National Institutes of HealthOff Site Icon:

For women:

  • Medications – drug therapies that support egg maturity, ovulation, and hormone levels
  • Surgery – disease treatment of fallopian tubes
  • Intrauterine insemination (IUI) – medical injection of sperm into the uterus
  • In vitro fertilization – sperm and egg from the couple are matched in a laboratory to produce an embryo that is later placed in the womb, resulting in pregnancy

For men:

  • Medication to treat hormone imbalances
  • Medication to treat erectile dysfunction
  • Surgery
