What are common infertility treatments?
If you’re diagnosed with infertility, you might still be able to have a baby, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Up to 85 to 90 percent of infertility cases can be treated with medicine or surgery, according to the ASRM.
A number of treatment options are available to both women and men, according to the National Institutes of Health:
For women:
- Medications – drug therapies that support egg maturity, ovulation, and hormone levels
- Surgery – disease treatment of fallopian tubes
- Intrauterine insemination (IUI) – medical injection of sperm into the uterus
- In vitro fertilization – sperm and egg from the couple are matched in a laboratory to produce an embryo that is later placed in the womb, resulting in pregnancy
For men:
- Medication to treat hormone imbalances
- Medication to treat erectile dysfunction
- Surgery
If you have infertility issues, talk to your doctor about treatment options.
