What are tendon problems?
Tendons are tissues that connect muscles to bone, and when muscles contract tendons pull on bones, making the fingers move, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Depending on the type or degree of injury, a damaged or injured tendon can make it difficult or impossible to bend one or more joints in a finger, states the AAOS.
A tendon injury in the hand can affect a person’s ability to properly move his or her hand in a safe way, according to the American Occupational Therapy Association in a new window with off site icon and 3rd party content disclaimer] (AOTA). Each person’s condition is unique and the rate of recovery depends on the severity of the injury, according to the AOTA.
