What is an Electronic Medical Record?
An electronic medical record (EMR) is a digital version of your paper chart used by your doctor or hospital. An EMR contains all the same information your paper chart would, including information from your doctor visits, lab work, medical history and hospital stays. It can help make sure there are no “gaps” in your care.
Having your records saved as EMRs will:
- Allow the records to be available and organized
- Allow easy, quick access to your medical history
- Ensure your care as a patient is not overlooked or duplicated
- Help your physician develop a long-term care plan
