Telestroke, or telemedicine, is a way to remotely connect specialists with emergency medical personnel at other sites, according to
the Mayo Clinic. Doctors use video equipment, Internet connection,
telecommunication and other technologies to quickly evaluate a stroke with a goal of improving outcomes, according to the Mayo Clinic.
According to the National Institutes of
Health, some studies
suggest that a telestroke network may increase the number of patients discharged home and may help to control medical costs.
For more information about telestroke networks, talk to your doctor.
