Premier Health and Dayton Physicians Network First in the World to Implement Next-Generation Kidney Stone and Enlarged Prostate Treatment
DAYTON, Ohio (September 8, 2020) – Premier Health and Dayton Physicians Network (DPN) are the first providers in the world to implement the new MOSES 2.0 Pulse 120H holmium laser by Lumenis, a system designed for minimally invasive kidney stone removal and gold-standard enlarged prostate surgery. DPN urologists have been treating patients with MOSES at Premier Health’s Miami Valley Hospital South in Centerville for the past two years; now patients are experiencing the advantages of the next-generation MOSES 2.0.
“We are very pleased to have the enhanced treatment option of MOSES 2.0 available for Premier Health patients and to provide access to the latest advances in treatment for two very common problems: kidney stones and enlarged prostate,” said Premier Health President and CEO Mary Boosalis. “Premier Health has always invested in health care technologies that truly and measurably improve the health of the communities we serve. With MOSES 2.0, we are continuing to fulfill that commitment to our patients.”
“MOSES 2.0 optimizes laser energy transmission, making kidney stone removal exceptionally safe, precise, thorough, and fast,” explained David Key, MD, managing partner of urology at DPN. “The MOSES 2.0 now allows us to offer a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for larger stones, instead of a surgery that requires an overnight stay in the hospital. All these advantages support DPN’s dedication to offering high-quality care to patients in Southwest Ohio.”
In addition to performing advanced stone surgery, DPN urologist Blake Anderson, MD, is the only doctor in the region to offer the new gold-standard treatment for enlarged prostate, holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). HoLEP is a minimally invasive surgery that achieves excellent outcomes for prostates of all sizes and is supported by the most recent American Urological Association (AUA) Guidelines on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). “The minimally invasive nature and durability of HoLEP is unmatched for treatment of patients with BPH,”said Dr. Anderson. “Now with the MOSES 2.0, the laser allows even better control of bleeding, decreasing postoperative catheter time so patients may even be discharged the same day without a catheter.”
