New Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease Prevention and Rehab Center to Honor Beloved Cardiologist
CENTERVILLE, Ohio (June 2, 2023) – Premier Health and Miami Valley Hospital Foundation recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the new Dr. Mukul S. Chandra Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease Prevention and Rehabilitation Center. This state-of-the-art facility, located at Miami Valley Hospital South, honors the legacy of beloved educator, community health advocate, and cardiologist Mukul S. Chandra, MD.
“This comprehensive center will not only be a tribute to Dr. Chandra, but an important resource for the community,” said Barbara Johnson, chief operating officer and executive vice president of Premier Health, and interim president of Miami Valley Hospital. “Premier Health and Miami Valley Hospital South are proud to honor Dr. Chandra’s legacy with a facility that will help so many people in our region.”
Dr. Chandra, who served as the medical director of cardiac preventive care and research at Miami Valley Hospital and as an assistant clinical professor at Wright State University, dedicated his life to improving the health and well-being of others. He also created Premier HeartWorks, a comprehensive evaluation program of heart attack risk factors.
“Dr. Chandra’s impact on our community cannot be overstated,” said Mike McKewen, MHA, director of cardiovascular and respiratory services at Premier Health. “This new center will support even more cardiac and pulmonary care patients, as well as offer preventive programming for those at-risk.”
Through gifts to the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation, this center is helping address the growing needs of the community and will provide enhanced access for the 250 patients who utilize it every week. The new center offers a larger workout area, additional exercise equipment, new technology, updated locker rooms, convenient handicap accessibility, and space for future growth and innovation.
“The Foundation is proud to be a part of this $500,000 project,” said Beth Hutter, vice president of Miami Valley Hospital Foundation. “Our donors believe in this new center and support those on their cardiac and pulmonary health journeys, but there is still more work to be done.”
Donations are still being accepted in support of the cardiac and pulmonary program by visiting the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation’s website.
