It’s very important for the pre-participation physical that each athlete gets to see their own physician who’s already familiar with their medical history and with any other conditions they might have because those are essential to address as well during a pre-participation physical exam. It’s also important that the athlete be honest with the physician about any current problems they may be having, things that may need some rehabilitation, injuries that haven’t been addressed yet before they start that season. It’s key that the physician be aware of the requirements of the pre-participation physical so it’s always good to have those forms filled out and at the physician’s office well in advance of when the athlete goes for that physical. And in most cases it shouldn’t be just a sports clearance physical or pre-participation physical, it should be the annual or periodic examination that each of these student athletes has with their own personal physician.
