I'm often asked why a patient might want to choose Premier Health for an ACL injury. Here's my opinion. One is we have a very experienced orthopedic staff across the market with sports medicine doctors, with probably combined 100 years of experience in dealing with the adolescent athlete or knee injuries in general. I love my staff. My surgery staff and I work together for approximately 15 or 20 years consistently now. Every time we do a surgery, we have the same people in there. It's a choreographed routine that is seamless to me so it makes my job not only easy but better.
When we move from the operating room to rehab. I can't tell you how excited I am about our rehab. We do a very good first three month physical therapy with our physical therapy sports medicine. Here's what we do a little bit different. After that, if you meet particular goals, we have a sports performance program here that rivals, in my opinion, anyone in the state of Ohio. We've spent a lot a time over the last four or five years researching ACL recovery programs for our athletes to not only get their knee better.
Historically, we spent a lot of time working on the knee. Then, we'd clear athletes to play and guess what, they couldn't run around the block because they were out of shape. The upper body was weak. They couldn't perform anyway. We would clear them for their knee. They're ready to go and they can't play. What we've done is we've developed a sports performance piece to our recovery and I think if there's a game changer for us I want to give credit to our sports performance guys for coming up with these protocols. Now, we work on what we call a better than before program. Not that it's going to make you better than before, but what we really want is when we clear you to play for your knee, we want the coaches and the rest of your teammates to think that you're actually ready to play. We work on core development, upper body strength, conditioning. We you rehab an ACL injury at our place, you better bring a towel because they're going to make you sweat.
