There are several programs out there that are typically computer programs, one being the impact test developed out of Pittsburgh that’s commonly used in this area. Those tests are best used if the athlete has the testing done before the season to develop a baseline. It tests memory skills, reaction time, impulse control. We then know what normal is for that athlete. If the athlete then sustains an injury we can use that data to help make decisions on has the recovery process taken place. We will retake the test after the injury to make sure the scores are similar to the previous scores. If there’s a big change, that’s a good indication that there is some sort of abnormality or injury causing the scores to be lower.
