There’s been a lot of excitement with anterior approach hip replacement surgery because of the faster recovery that many patients have, whereas traditionally patients were out of work for as long as three months.
Now it’s more typical with this new approach to have patients back to their normal activities six weeks after surgery. Additionally, many of the restrictions after surgery that have traditionally limited patients’ ability to cross their legs or bend over are not needed with this newer approach because the muscles are never cut and the stability of the hip joint is immediately present, whereas with the traditional approach, you’ve got to rely on muscles healing prior to allowing some of those activities to resume.
