One of the philosophies of our practice is to provide full time comprehensive otolaryngology care to the people of the northern Miami valley. That has not been available for a long time. Everybody in the office is involved in the patient care, not just the doctors. A patient's visit starts when they call for an appointment. If the patient has a good experience with Jessica making their appointment, they come in with a positive attitude. Our medical assistants take over and they play a big part in collecting the patient's past medical health and their medications. Then, Stewart and I come in and, as we say, provide a very thorough evaluation in a patient oriented manner.
It's a great mixture of someone that's had a lot of experience in the field and pretty much seen everything as far as out in private community practice to couple that with someone who's familiar with the recent most up-to-date evidence based medicine and most recent treatment modalities. It's a nice thing to couple those two together.
The services we offer within the 4 walls of this office include audiology, so full hearing testing, hearing aids. We're affiliated with the audiology group that provides services for us. Patients with hearing loss or other hearing problems get a full medical and audiologic evaluation. We have endoscopes, flexible endoscopes that we can look at the back of the throat with or nose. Rigid endoscopes and a video tower that allows us to do in-office sinus procedures and take care of post-op sinus patients or other disorders in the sinonasal passageways.
I think that this office is capable of doing a complete diagnostic workup on any problem that has to do with otolaryngology and neck surgery. This is a full service otolaryngology office. We like to say we take care of patients from the cradle to the grave because that is one of the neat things about otolaryngology is that the age of patients you take care of literally goes from the neonate to the older geriatric population. We are capable of providing full services for all of those patients. Certainly, Stewart and I are trained and educated to take care of all ENT problems. We have ancillary folks that we are associated with that help us do that.
We probably see patients together a couple times a week but if we end up seeing each other outside of work, which happens because I have young kids and they live pretty close to us. It's real nice because that colleague happens to be your dad.
