When non surgical treatment options fail, for cubital tunnel, the numbness and tingling is persisting, or getting worse, and potentially the patients are getting weak in their hands, there is a surgical treatment for cubital tunnel. This is called an ulnar nerve release at the elbow.
What it involves is a fairly small incision on the inside of the elbow, and releasing the pressure, that is causing the problem on the ulnar nerve. This is a fairly fast recovery time period, where, we really are just waiting for the skin to heal. But during that time period, patients are moving their elbows. They're not splinted or casted, and they're able to complete a lot of their activities of daily living, even during the early recovery process.
