The ways you can reduce the risk of a meniscal injury, particularly in a young athlete are being healthy about your participation in sport. In other words, participating in the same sport for extensive lengths of time, every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, puts you at a high likelihood for a serious injury, possibly a meniscal tear. Keeping your body healthy and fit outside of your sport, eating well, exercising regularly not in your sport, in other words cross training, doing a variety of different activities at lower levels that allow you to stay strong globally instead of just strong from the perspective of your individual sport can help prevent serious injuries in a young athlete.
