Unlike some minimally invasive approaches greater than 95% of patients are a good candidate for anterior hip replacement surgery. Since most of us carry our weight more towards the back of our hip the incision for the anterior approach actually allows it to do it, to perform the surgery on patients of almost any size. In my practice last year I did more than 200 anterior hips and I only performed two posterior approach hips the entire year. And those were in patients that had previous trauma, and had retained implants that couldn’t be removed using the anterior approach.
