In regards to cardiac screening for athletes prior to participation, there's no doubt that there should be a cardiac screen. The debate comes more on what kind of cardiac screen we should be doing. Prior to participation in athletics, everybody should have a pre-participation physical exam. As part of that exam, what we currently do, and have done for a number of years, is a cardiac screen that involves taking personal history, family history, a cardiovascular exam that includes cardiac auscultation, blood pressure monitoring, and also pulses. That's our current screening protocol. The question is whether or not we should be doing EKG screening. So in regards to that question, yes everyone should be getting a cardiac screen.
