For patients with peripheral arterial disease who have blocked off arteries who need to have them treated, use of the Ocelot catheter can increase our likelihood of success. It allows us to get through the narrowed artery, and totally blocked off artery and get down to the bottom where we can restore the blood flow and therefore improve symptoms. It’s sort of like driving down a dark road with your headlights off. You can get through; you might bump into a few things. If you turn your headlights on, you’re more likely to get through that road without hitting something on the side of the road. Ocelot catheter allows us to see the inside of the artery with a laser light and steer away from the outside of the artery and simply get all the way through the center of the vessel.
