Hi, I'm, Dr. Wells, Dr. Britton Wells. I'm one of the orthopedic surgeons here at Miami Valley Hospital. I'm in a group with four other orthopedic surgeons, bone and joint surgeons, and we all have privileges and work and operate here at Miami Valley Hospital.
As an orthopedic surgeon, we take care of all sorts of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, ranging from shoulder and elbow and arm pain to carpal tunnel syndrome to arthritis to sports' injuries, rotator cuff injuries, knee injuries, as well as fracture care and total joint replacement. So I think it would be appropriate for a patient to want to come to see the orthopedic surgeon when they are having a musculoskeletal dysfunction, knee pain, for example, that's interfering and inhibiting their daily activities, and I don't think a person necessarily, depending on their insurance plan, but I don't think, most people don't necessarily have to have a referral to come see an orthopedic surgeon, such as myself. They can contact our offices directly and we'd be happy to see them and take care of them.
I would suggest that probably maybe 10 percent to 15 percent of patients that come to our office ultimately need an operation, so most patients we see, and we treat conservatively, but certainly there are people that do need an operation and we're here for that as well.
