Patients typically ask me about their past history of the jogger or a former athlete and whether that affects knee pain. Typically the answer is no most times unless they’re an elite athlete their activities, college, high school even recreational do not contribute to their knee pain, and or arthritis. Most studies show and I subjectively would confirm that people with a BMI above what it should be do have a higher incidence of knee arthritis and knee pain. The good news with that is that losing weight can often times help reduce the knee pain.
