More and more grocery stores and pharmacies are offering the flu shot. However, receiving the shot from your primary care physician assures a relationship with your doctor including knowing your medical history, allergies, etc. Your physician will also be available to consult with you should you have a reaction or experience a side effect from the flu shot.
Though side effects to the flu shot are usually non-existent to mild, minor side effects that could occur are:
- Soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
- Fever (low grade)
- Aches
If these problems occur, they begin soon after the shot and usually last one to two days. Almost all people who receive influenza vaccine have no serious problems from it.
