Commission on Cancer Survey Success
Miami Valley Hospital’s oncology program underwent a successful Commission on Cancer Survey on November 2. Cancer programs must undergo a rigorous on-site survey review of standards every three years to maintain accreditation.
According to the Commission on Cancer’s mission, the consortium of professional organizations is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard- setting, which promotes cancer prevention, research, education and monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
Many individuals work together to maintain a successful oncology program, and nursing contributes to those accomplishments with participation in the areas of oncology nursing leadership, cancer prevention, screening and outreach, oncology nursing care, palliative care services, patient navigation, survivorship care planning, distress screening, clinical and programmatic goals, quality studies, and quality improvement measures.
We are already a year into the planning of our 2021 survey.
