Senior Emergency Center to Open in April
By Lori Nichols RN, MSN, CCRN, ACNS-BC, CTTS
As the population ages, baby boomers require geriatric-specific care that enhances their comprehension and participation in their care. Beginning mid-April, 2017, the Senior Emergency Center at Atrium Medical Center will open to care specifically for those over 65 years of age. Not only will the physical space be conducive to elders, with no glare, non-slip flooring, enhanced lighting and audio capabilities, comfortable beds and a calming environment, but the comprehensive care, for both inpatient and discharge follow up, will distinguish the Senior Emergency Center from all others.
Evidence-based best practice for care of complicated health and community needs is the cornerstone of the Senior Emergency Center. As one of only a few such centers in the country, the Senior Emergency Center at Atrium supports Premier Health’s mission to build healthier communities.
