Two Atrium Medical Center Physicians Praised by the Joint Commission
By Will Andrew, MD, president, medical staff, Atrium Medical Center
In July, Atrium Medical Center was surveyed by the Joint Commission. There were 23 recommendations (the average for a survey is 31). Most of the recommendations related to the physical plant with only a few opportunities identified for changes to the way the medical staff provides care. This superior performance for the survey reflects the hard work and preparation of many people, not the least of whom include the members of the medical staff office led by Pat Lowman.
There is also high praise for two physicians who shined during the survey. Douglas Gaker, MD, was observed by surveyors executing a flawless timeout prior to a procedure. Chuck Hageman, MD, was sought out for an interview after a surveyor saw a picture of him and decided he looked like a friendly guy. Chuck lived up to his depiction sharing a 15-minute chat that concluded with a friendly hug. Thanks, Doug and Chuck.
