Wright State University, Premier Health Appoint First-Ever Dual Leadership Role

Premier Pulse     December 2024

Raj Mitra, MD, has been named dean of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and chief academic officer at Premier Health. He is the first to hold the new dual role responsible for driving groundbreaking initiatives through a more integrated delivery of academic and clinical services at both institutions. Dr. Mitra comes to the Miami Valley from Florida, where he has been serving as professor of medicine and associate dean of clinical affairs at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine and chief medical officer at UCF Health. His appointment to this new role takes effect March 10, 2025, and follows a national search and review of dozens of candidates guided by a nationally recognized executive search firm. A nationally recognized expert in rehabilitation medicine and pain management, Dr. Mitra has made significant contributions to research, advising, and policy development, particularly in addressing the nation’s opioid crisis. His expertise has been sought by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), where he served as a physician advisor, and by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention as an expert consultant. The appointment of Dr. Mitra to the newly created position is the latest milestone in an unprecedented alignment and enhanced affiliation between Wright State and Premier Health.
