Two MVH Athletic Trainers Honored

DAYTON, OH (May 28, 2015) – The national publication, Conditioning and Training Magazine has selected two MVH athletic trainers to receive honorable mention citations in its annual selection of distinguished athletic trainers. The two are Nik Berger, lead athletic trainer at Centerville High School and athletic trainer Amy Wheeler who is assigned to Beavercreek High School.

Each fall the magazine seeks nominations for its annual award, “Most Valuable Athletic Trainer” which is given to someone who show tremendous dedicating in working with high school athletes.   Hundreds of nominations are received from across the nation.

Amy Bernard, manager of the MVH sports medicine program submitted nominations for Nik and Amy. She learned this spring that Nik and Amy did not earn the top honor but were two of eighteen athletic trainers to earn honorable mention status by the publication.

“We are proud of Nik and Amy,” said Bernhard. “Both go above and beyond when it comes to taking care of athletes at their respective high schools. And to have two staff members named to the honorable mention list from all the nominations received in the nation is awesome.”

Nik came to Premier Health from Ashland University where he was the head athletic trainer for men's and women's soccer, wrestling, and baseball. He began his career with Premier Health working for Good Samaritan North (Miami Valley Hospital North as of July 23, 2018) Sports Medicine in July of 2007 as the head athletic trainer for Wayne High School in Huber Heights.

Nik is a graduated of Bowling Green State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education. He received a Master of Science degree in physical education/athletic training.

Amy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Wright State University as well as her Master’s Degree which she earned in in rehabilitation science. She is also credentialed as a corrective exercise specialists from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Amy joined the staff of Miami Valley Hospital Sports Medicine in 2008 after working at another health system.

Both Nik and Amy are certified athletic trainers.
