Piqua Students Raise Money for Cancer Care
PIQUA (May 22, 2015) - A memorial 5K organized by two Piqua High School students raised $1,700 for use for patients at the UVMC Cancer Care Center. Students Lauren Ashcraft and Madison Huber on April 20 presented the check from the 5K and luminary ceremony to Jean Heath, cancer care center director. The students said they wanted to do something in memory of Andrea Huelskamp, the mother of a fellow PHS student who died of cancer. The young women, members of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), organized the event and were pleased to see more than 100 people from the community turnout. “I was so proud of them,” Heath said. “This is so amazing. One hundred percent of the funds will be used for our patients here in the community.” Pictured are (left to right) Heath, Huber, Ashcraft, and Abby Frilling, FCCLA adviser.
