Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) Injections Repair Tissue and Relieve Pain
Bone marrow contains your body’s healing cells. These healing cells, along with the growth factors present within them, can be used to activate and stimulate the natural healing and repair processes within the body.
The specialists at Premier Orthopedics offer a no-surgery approach—Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) injections to help treat pain related to damaged tissues including from arthritis, cartilage lesions, tendon breakdown, and tearing.
No Surgery Needed
BMAC injections can offer long-lasting pain relief without surgery. We perform BMAC injections as an outpatient procedure.
BMAC injections are done in a doctor’s office by first conducting a bone marrow aspiration, which is a procedure that removes bone marrow from the hipbone through a long needle. A special process helps isolate the needed cells by using a centrifuge. Those cells are then delivered to the area of injury – such as an arthritic knee – through ultrasound guidance. The activated cells then work to decrease pain and inflammation and can assist in helping to heal damaged tissues including bone, cartilage, ligament, muscle, or tendon.
Patients are limited in their activity level for the first week after the procedure to allow the process to work and to avoid unnecessary inflammation. Individuals can return to their normal activity level about seven days after the procedure, and will begin therapy a week after that. Most patients see improvement within six to eight weeks after treatment, but timing can vary, sometimes taking three months or more.
Are BMAC Injections for You?
From acute injuries to damage from chronic wear and tear or disease, BMAC injections help your body heal itself. That ability makes it an important therapy option for everyone from high-performance athletes, including runners, to anyone who wants to stay active.
BMAC injections can help heal ligament, tendon, or muscle injuries such as in the rotator cuff or Achilles tendon. They also help with pain and inflammation related to chronic, degenerative arthritis where cartilage in the joint is worn away.
If you suffer from osteoarthritis or pain in your joints, BMAC injections may offer a non-invasive alternative to relieve your pain and get you moving again.
While every patient’s experience will be different, BMAC injections have the potential to delay or avoid the need for joint replacement.

How are BMAC Injections Different from Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and BMAC injections are both forms of regenerative medicine that work with your body’s natural healing ability. Growth factors in PRP stimulate your body’s existing repair cells to work harder. BMAC injections boost your body’s repair processes, too, and may introduce new cells to the area of injury that can help with healing and repair.
An Investment in Your Mobility
While BMAC injections are not presently covered by insurance plans, it offers a cost-effective alternative compared with surgery to repair tissue, relieve pain and get you back in motion.
