Alvianna’s Story: Renewed Independence
On her way to pick up a friend from work, on a rainy day, Alvianna Rodriguez lost control of her car. It ran into a tree. A woman who witnessed the collision stayed with Alvianna until a Trotwood Fire Department ambulance arrived to transport her to Miami Valley Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center.
Imaging at the hospital confirmed that Alvianna was bleeding from internal injuries, and that she required emergency surgery. As a Level I trauma center, Miami Valley Hospital always has surgical personnel and an operating room available for trauma patients. The hospital’s neurosurgical team also came in to address injuries to her spinal cord. Due to the severity of these injuries, Alvianna was paralyzed from the waist down. Continuing her journey to recovery at the Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio, Alvianna has regained independence in and out of her wheelchair. Her mother is hopeful that she’ll walk again.
