The Goal: Living Healthy Every Day
Goals can be whatever you want them to be! For weight loss, one to two pounds per week is recommended and encourages long term weight loss.
It is good to have non-numerical goals too. So here are some of mine:
- Hiking the trails and distances that I want
- Running- even if I can only run a mile, I would like to be able to be healthy enough and injury free enough to run
- Wear a swimsuit without feeling self conscious, fat, and ugly
- Wear regular size and not plus size clothes
- Fit into airplane seats
- Weigh less than my husband Rob (he weighs about 228 right now, I am gonna catch him!)
- Maintaining the weight loss - this is by far the most important
The vast majority of people who lose weight will gain it back. The key to keep it off is to totally overhaul your entire lifestyle to support better exercise. You can't just talk healthy, you've got to live it every single day. This is so hard! It's probably one of the hardest things I will do in my lifetime. The only way for this to work is to persist lifelong with all the diet and exercises modifications I make to my life. I think that, with time, it is encouraging that it is getting easier. The more sugar I cut out, the less my body craves it. I can keep snacks in the house and not worry about bingeing on them anymore. What a great feeling to have!
