Atrium Medical Center
Atrium Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital have earned a place on Newsweek’s 2025 Best-In-State Hospitals list. Miami Valley Hospital was ranked first in Dayton and ninth in Ohio. Atrium was ranked 22nd in the state of Ohio. The award, presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., evaluates hospitals with 50-plus beds across all states based on a nationwide survey of medical professionals, quality metrics, and patient experience and outcome data.
Atrium continues its efforts to grow the visibility of Premier Health’s collaboration with The Christ Hospital Health Network to deliver high-quality, cost-effective cardiovascular services. Atrium hosted about 40 members of Chamber 45005 on Oct. 21 and showcased the partnership. Attendees learned how this innovative partnership is improving the patient experience by providing comprehensive services in an efficient and seamless delivery model.
Premier Health EMS Center of Excellence honored five Monroe firefighters with Community Hero certificates and Cardiac Save Challenge coins for their lifesaving actions during a cardiac arrest. The patient received emergency intervention at Atrium, where they were stabilized and treated in the cardiac catheterization lab for severe arterial blockages. The patient recovered and was discharged nine days later. Local media covered the efforts and Premier Health’s recognition of the firefighters.
Atrium’s Family Birth Center organized a trunk or treat night for employees’ families to enjoy. The event, which saw more than 200 children of employees participate, included visits from local fire and police departments and food trucks. This employee engagement activity was also a way for Atrium to promote its Pathway to Excellence nursing and employee engagement surveys to staff who attended.
Dorene Moore, associate nurse manager for Atrium’s emergency department inpatient unit, received the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. AMC leaders recognized her on Oct. 15. The DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers. A nurse leader level award was recently launched throughout Premier Health.
Miami Valley Hospital
Breast Cancer Awareness Month was recognized throughout October across hospital campuses with pink lighting. Speed bumps were painted pink with messages promoting mammograms, such as 'Slow Down, Get a Mammogram' and 'Feel a Bump, Get a Mammogram.' New this year, the lazy river at the main campus turned pink, and the Tree of Hope room at Miami Valley Hospital South was illuminated in pink. The Pink Ribbon Good Pink Fire Truck also made a stop at each of the hospital campuses.
The 10th Annual Miami Valley Hospital Trauma Survivors Celebration was held this month. This event honors trauma survivors with recognition from family, friends, trauma program staff, physicians, and caregivers. Also, the 5th Annual Premier Health Stroke Survivors Dinner took place this month.
Dr. Kalpesh Desai, an interventional radiologist from Miami Valley Hospital North, spoke at the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce WINGS luncheon. The event is the annual luncheon benefiting Pink Ribbon Good.
Samaritan Behavioral Health represented Premier Health at “The Spotlight, To Shine A Light On Mental Health” at the University of Dayton Arena. This event was part of a week-long community engagement event raising awareness about mental health and teen suicide prevention. In addition, several Premier Health leaders attended the annual University of Dayton “Friends in Healthcare” reception hosted by UD’s School of Education and Health Sciences.
In partnership with the medical students from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Miami Valley Hospital was the host site for a surgical tech symposium for local high school students.
Upper Valley Medical Center
The UVMC Foundation’s Champions for Care Luncheon was held on Oct. 16 at the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy. Brooke O’Neal, a 30-year-old diagnosed with stage-4 breast cancer, shared her cancer journey with more than 100 community members in attendance. This annual fundraiser is held to promote and support UVMC cancer care programs.
A dedication ceremony for the new Miami County YMCA/UVMC Premier Health Branch in Piqua was held on Oct. 17. Steve Staley, chair of the UVMC Parent Board, was recognized for his role in leading the capital campaign for the new facility, and Kevin Harlan gave remarks on behalf of UVMC.
Premier Health/UVMC announced in October negotiations that were expected to result in the sale of SpringMeade Health Center to Otterbein SeniorLife and Koester Pavilion to Vancrest Healthcare Centers. The transitions are expected to be finalized by the end of the year, and further details will be released at that time.
Radiologist Diane Anderson, DO, medical director of breast imaging for UVMC and Miami Valley Hospital North, was interviewed on Troy Power 107 and WPTW radio stations to share information about mammography and other important diagnostics for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. UVMC’s Healthy Minute radio spot in October also featured content related to breast cancer prevention and treatment.
Orthopedic surgeon Don Delcamp, MD, was recognized by Troy City Schools in October for 40 years serving as the Troy football team physician. Dr. Delcamp retired from local practice and his position with Troy football this year, and Dr. Tom Zink has taken over as team physician.
UVMC Outpatient Echocardiography services relocated to the previous special care nursery space on the first floor in October. The move allows patients to have a more accessible space to be scanned, expands capacity and access, and enhances workflow efficiency for our sonographers.
In October, a Premier Health MedQuest career exploration experience for Miami County students was hosted at UVMC. Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations interacting with health care professionals in medical imaging, surgery, patient simulators, trauma, occupational therapy, and respiratory therapy.
The Pink Ribbon Good (formerly Pink Ribbon Girls) Fire Truck visited UVMC on Oct. 10, allowing staff and visitors to purchase t-shirts and other items to support this community partner who does so much for breast cancer patients.
As part of UVMC’s partnership with Miami County YMCA, hospital departments hosted numerous booths at the annual YMCA Seniors Day Health Fair held Oct. 23 at the YMCA Robinson Branch in Troy. UVMC hosted informational and interactive booths at the event.
In other community activities, UVMC sponsored the Brukner Nature Center Annual Art of Nature event held Oct. 6 at the center and participated in the Collins Aerospace Employee Health Fair conducted Oct. 11 at the Collins plant in Troy.
Congratulations to Penny Sykes, clinical nurse in the ICU, for receiving a Great Catch Award at UVMC. This award acknowledges an individual who makes a great catch in recognizing and escalating a potentially unsafe patient situation.
UVMC administration hosted an appreciation breakfast for the UVMC family on Oct. 16 to celebrate everyone’s hard work and dedication. Hospital executives and management team members served staff at the event.

Premier Physician Network and MIX 107.7 were presenting sponsors of the 2024 Concert For A Cure. The event took place on Oct. 21 at the Brightside Music & Event Venue, featured acoustic performances from Tyler Glenn and Chris Allen of the Neon Trees, and raised more than $11,000 for the Noble Circle Project – a community of women thriving beyond cancer.
