Premier Health has enjoyed a longstanding working relationship with Wright State University and the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. Together we have worked to educate and retain physicians, nurses, and other health care providers in our community. We’ve elevated the quality of patient care here in Dayton and surrounding areas, and we developed and improved educational and clinical training and research programs.

In recent years, we have taken significant strides to formalize and enhance our collaboration. This endeavor has led to the establishment of an affiliation agreement between our institutions, enabling us to prioritize collaboration on shared objectives and emerging initiatives.

Patient Care

In a given year, more than a million patients will visit a Premier Health Hospital, urgent care, or the practice of one of our primary care or specialty physicians or advanced care providers.

Our partnership with Wright State University and the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) is instrumental in our mission to enhance care for patients and communities in need, ensuring access to a comprehensive range of medical services close to home. Medical Education

Premier Health facilities serve as a vital clinical education site for the next generation of healthcare professionals. Through hands-on experiences with our expert clinicians, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to diverse clinical settings, students gain invaluable insights and practical skills essential for their future careers.

Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) serves as the academic sponsor of several residency and fellowship programs at Premier Health. These medical residencies include: family medicine, rural family medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, psychiatry, surgery, neurology and plastic surgery. In addition, Premier Health currently serves as the largest clinical site for Emergency Medicine residents in the region. In partnership with Wright State’s BSOM, Premier Health also offers fellowships in surgical critical care, acute critical care, neuro intensive care, vascular (stroke) neurology, orthopedic trauma, gastroenterology, hematology-oncology, infectious disease, geriatrics, palliative medicine, addiction medicine, and soon to add, a fellowship in headache.

The collaboration between the nursing and other allied health programs at Wright State University’s College of Health, Education and Human Services and Premier Health stands as a testament to the power of synergy in healthcare education and practice. By forging this partnership, both entities have embarked on a journey to elevate the standards of nursing education and clinical care. Wright State University's nursing school brings a wealth of academic expertise and a commitment to innovation in teaching methodologies, while Premier Health offers invaluable clinical resources and real-world experiences. The Wright State University and Premier Health Clinical Trials Research Alliance (CTRA) oversees clinical trials across Southwest Ohio, with groundbreaking clinical trials across a spectrum of medical disciplines including stroke, heart failure, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, migraine, and more.  With the oversight of Wright State’s Institutional Review Board, Premier Health trials involving human subjects receive rigorous approval.

Designated as a University System of Ohio Center of Excellence, the Wright State University & Premier Health Neuroscience Institute leverages scientific research at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and Premier Health’s extensive clinical resources to develop new, more effective treatments for neurologic conditions.

Our robust health sciences research platform not only expands access to innovative therapies but also generates crucial population health insights.
