Cardiothoracic Surgery
Cardiothoracic surgery (CT surgery), performed at Atrium Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital, involves procedures on the organs in the chest cavity, or thorax – including the heart, lungs, and esophagus. In many cases, conditions affecting your heart and lungs can be treated with medication, lifestyle modifications, and nonsurgical procedures.
But when they can’t, Premier Health provides Southwest Ohio with board-certified cardiothoracic surgeons who are highly trained and experienced in complex open-heart and thoracic surgical procedures.
Health Conditions Treated With CT Surgery
CT surgery is used to correct congenital heart disease, repair traumatic injuries, treat valvular heart disease, and treat a variety of health conditions when medical management does not relieve symptoms. Some of these conditions include:

- Pulmonary emphysema
- Swallowing disorders
