Sometimes, complications can require you to be in the hospital during your pregnancy. The specialists with Miami Valley Hospital’s Perinatal Intensive Care Unit (PICU) are here to support you with advanced maternity care before, during, and after birth if you have an at-risk or high-risk pregnancy.
The Dayton area’s only high-risk maternity center, our PICU provides 24/7 emergency care for you and your baby through our Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program.
Reasons you may need treatment at our high-risk maternity center:
- Extreme high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Diabetes and gestational diabetes
- Thyroid issues
- Gastric bypass
- Physical maternal and/or fetal placenta abnormalities
- Advanced maternal age
- Multiples
- Fetuses with birth defects and other in-utero complications
Comfort-Focused, Advanced, Family-Centered Care
Our PICU rooms are private and spacious and include intensive care equipment for responsive, advanced high-risk pregnancy care. In addition, our center is Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
While primarily focused on keeping you and your baby healthy, our high-risk pregnancy specialists also partner with you to keep family members involved in your journey as much as possible. Mothers from 17 counties in Southwest Ohio are transported to Miami Valley Hospital for specialized care in our family-centered PICU.
