Good Health Starts With a Healthy Meal

Dayton is home to a significant food desert, which means that circumstances often make it hard for families to access wholesome food. That’s where organizations such as the Wesley Community Center have stepped in. The center has expanded to provide 40 percent more local residents with fresh produce and other nutritious items – enough for more than 110,000 meals annually. In 2017, Wesley served more than 7,600 people, most of them single mothers with children living at or below the poverty line. Here, families receive a five-day supply of food and make connections to community services, including adult education, employment assistance, and case management.

Premier Health recently contributed toward the center’s purchase of a refrigeration unit so it can stock much-needed fruits and vegetables. We are proud to support the Wesley Community Center and the Gem City Market, a grocery slated to open on Salem Avenue next year, and are dedicated to do our part to stamp out hunger in our communities.
